Westside proposes name change for 2010/11 season
Westside Football Club is proposing to change its name to Southbrook Football Club. The name Westside has been used since the club's founding in 1991 when home matches were played at Greendown School in West Swindon. From 2001 until 2003 the football club was based at King Edward's Place, Wanborough following amalgamation with the former Dunbar Athletic FC. The club then moved to Southbrook Recreation Ground following Swindon Town's take over of the KEP facilities for their training ground. The club has now put down roots at Southbrook with a major investment of £24,000 to upgrade the facility to Wiltshire County League Premier Division status. Financed through a number of funding packages including a £17,000 Football Foundation grant, £4,000 Wiltshire FA loan and £3,000 from the clubs own fund raising activities, the upgrade included the provision of the surrounding spectator barrier, team dugouts and an upgrade to the match officials changing facilities. Local support is growing and a change of name, to better reflect the club's location, is seen as helping to garner further support and improve the club's standing in the local community.
