Ron Sproule

It is with great sadness that I have to advise you that Southbrook Football Club's president, Ron Sproule has passed away after a long battle with illness.

Many of you will have known Ron through his involvement with football in Swindon for over twenty years.

Ron was a founding member of our club, known in those days as Westside United Junior Football Club, and until recently made visits to watch us at Southbrook Rec. You only have to look at our Honours Board to understand the impact Ron had on so many players who represented us at all age levels. His commitment to football and the way it should be played was exemplary.

Our sincere condolences go to Ron's family, especially to Jane, our club secretary and to Keith and John who both played for us over many years. I am sure you will join us in supporting them as best we can at this difficult time.

Ron's funeral will take place at St Peter's church, Eastleaze at 1200 on Monday 6th February.

Donations to Macmillan are welcome.

Chris Aldridge, Chairman, Southbrook Football Club.

Grand designs threaten Southbrook future

Southbrook Football Club has learned of plans by Swindon Borough Councill to release Southbrook Recreation Ground for house building. Should these reports be true it would see the end of football at Southbrook Recreation Ground and the demise of Southbrook Football Club. Southbrook Football Club will be seeking clarity from Swindon Borough Council on their alleged proposals and the threat to the club's assets.

Planning ahead

Southbrook Football Club is planning to increase the number of teams within the club for the 2012/13 season by re-introducing a reserve team - last fielded in 2006/07. We propose to register a reserve team in the Plaister Autos Wiltshire County League Division 1 and we are specifically interested in youth teams with a management team and players at the upper age limit with ambition to play in a senior league.
